What is ISOLE?

The ISOLE conference is a student-organized event specifically tailored to students interested in or involved in the outdoor industry. Over the weekend of April 3rd-5th, 2020, attendants will travel to Colorado State University's campus in Fort Collins, Colorado to hear from keynote speakers that have proven success in our industry, attend student presentations, participate in skill workshops, build their professional networks, and more! The theme for the 2020 ISOLE Conference is Stewardship, with sub-themes of community, inclusivity, development, and integrity. Together, we will deepen our understanding of our relationship with the environment and our community as outdoor leaders. Conversations will be guided by this theme and will be facilitated by students based on their interests and experiences.

Colorado State University's Outdoor Program is so excited to be hosting ISOLE this year. We hope to see you on the CSU campus next April! Cheers!

History & Philosophy

The Inter-mountain Student Outdoor Leadership Symposium (ISOLS) began in April 2003 when the University of Utah Outdoor Adventure Program managers returned from the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) conference and decided the inter-mountain schools should create something that was more relevant to students throughout the region. After that, Western State University in Gunnison, Colorado created the Student Outdoor Leadership and Education (SOLE) Conference in April of 2019.

In attempts to create a cohesive event to bring the entire Inter-mountain region together, as well as provide an affordable opportunity to learn from peers, network, and develop, the Inter-mountain Student Outdoor Leadership and Education conference was created.

The ISOLE conference will foster the belief that individuals can advance their lives both personally and professionally by involvement in the outdoors. This includes the conviction that while the outdoor experience need not involve physical risk, there should always be an element of challenge and accomplishment. We believe that these lessons are best learned through personal experience, mentor relationships, and peer to peer sharing of mistakes and triumphs. We hope to create this atmosphere where student outdoor leaders can be apart of a community of sharing ideas and experiences, specifically around our role as stewards of our environment.
